Winter Vacation

Though winter vacation only lasts a couple of weeks, parents often find that their children go stir crazy. To avoid the stress of trying to deal with high energy kids while the kids are at-home, you can plan activities to keep the children occupied.

Here are five activities that are sure to keep the kids occupied when it’s just too cold to play outside:

Tiny Indoor Snowmen
Finding stuff to do inside doesn’t mean that you have to stick with what you can find inside. If it’s too cold to go outside, why not bring the snow inside and make tiny snowmen inside? This activity is easily completed in the bathtub, or in the sink — even in a large bowl. A little bit of snow and bits and pieces to make snowmen mean that you can have entertainment until the snow melts.

Coloring the Snow
With two simple ingredients, food coloring and water can transform what you know about winter activities. Put food coloring and water into spray bottles and you can let the kids create decorations and works of art in the nearby snow banks. With lots of snow to choose from, they’ll be hard pressed to run out of canvas.

Printable Coloring Sheets
You can find hundreds of printable coloring sheets online. Use the coloring sheets to create an element of learning while letting the kids color something new. From preschool to upper grade school there are age appropriate and free activities that can be printed from the internet for parents to use at-home.

Tent City
Looking for something that’s going to keep the kids occupied for an entire day? Consider breaking out the blankets, pillows and clothes pins in the home and encouraging the kids to make a tent in one of the rooms of the home. Don’t worry about the mess,  it can be cleaned up tomorrow. Think about the fun that you could have in a tent — and the possibilities for play that can be imagined. Plus, it could be a really fun place to have a picnic.

Paint in the Bathtub
There are tons of recipes for bath tub paint that you can make at-home but one of the easiest is to combine food coloring and shaving cream in different containers. It doesn’t stain the tub and can take the boredom out of some of those last days of winter vacation that seem to drag by filled with boredom.
