Summer Vacation

With almost three months of summer vacation when the kids are out of school, parents are often on the lookout for activities that are going to keep the kids entertained while they’re out of school. Finding something new to do every single day to keep from hearing “I’m bored” can be difficult — but not impossible. Here are some of the things that parents can do to keep the kids entertained on summer vacation.

Short Term Summer Camps
There are summer camps available for children with all types of interest, from space to music, art to surfing and everything in between, parents can find a short term camp that lasts anywhere from three to ten days, to keep the child entertained. These short term summer camps can be expensive, so parents should take advantage of early registration and sibling discounts to reduce the cost of the summer camps

Find Free Activities
Planning activities to entertain the kids everyday throughout the summer months can get expensive. Find free activities through local parent organizations, parks and libraries to get out of the house without breaking the bank. Community listings, newspapers and classified ads are a great source of information to find free and low-cost events to keep the kids entertained at home.

Encourage Creativity
Encouraging the children to get creative with items that are already in the house can help to save the summer budget, and keep the kids entertained while parents finish work and other tasks. Think boxes, rolls of paper, crayons and art supplies for projects that can encourage the kids to look within themselves to find entertainment. Have an entire day where the kids have to plan their own activities, you might just be surprised at what they come up with.

Get Out There
There are so many adventures that parents and children can discover through the summer months. Something as simple as exploring your local city or town like a tourist for the day can be a great way to break up the monotony of staying home. Checking out the local attractions, visiting the local pool or even experiencing a new restaurant can be a great way to make the most of summer vacation.

Swap Childcare
Do you have a friend or acquaintance with similar aged kids? Swapping childcare and taking turns throughout the week giving the other parent a few hours off can be a great way to catch up on work or run errands. Plus, it saves the summer budget because you aren’t paying out of pocket for childcare.
