Ciao! My name is Martha… just a girl swimming through new flavors, scents, sights, and sounds as she exchanges her California life for a fresh new life translating from Rome.

Yes, I’m aware that most blogs have a simple “about me” section. Though, instead of diving deep into a long monologue, I decided to have a page where visitors could ask what they want to know instead of me telling them what I think they should know. So go ahead, ask me a question, or two. Pretty much anything goes here…

Hi Martha,
I am the web content producer for WCBS 880 in New York City. I am starting a blog and noticed your design. I think it looks really great and would love to use part of it for my blog.

Unfortunately our program does not support word press graphics but I was hoping to use part of it for my blog and of course give you credit (and link to your site) on the page.

Please let me know if that’s ok and if you have any questions for me!
Thanks very much!
Roxanne

P.S. What part of NorCal are you from? I grew up in Orinda…

Hi Roxanne!

The design on this blog? Sure! It’s definitely okay!

Actually, I’m hours from releasing its twin version that’s much cleaner and not so girly, has the expanding/collapsing picture header like the one seen here, but 3 columns with 7 widgetized sections of varying sizes to add lots of content outside the RSS feed, but keep things un-cluttered, and the newest post is outside the loop (old posts) allowing the new content to be styled different from the old entries, and more content to be placed after the first post (like the “follow me around the web” section seen in this blog.)

It’s been a :censored: to code, at least for me that I’m just a blogger. There is a lot of code in that one….some JavaScript on top of the CSS and PHP… and it’s all yours if you want it. But no WordPress? Sounds tricky.

You grew up in Orinda? That’s near Berkeley, right? Cool! I’m not far from there. I studied part of elementary school and middle school in San Francisco City, then high school over in the East Bay, and college in Italy and Davis, but I’ve been bouncing from the SF bay, Mexico, and Italy for quite a while now.

Okay… I’m going to go finish that code. I’ll Email you soon.

Hi Martha, WP Desk theme awesome! Pretty much what I was looking for! Is there any way to get nothing.PNG in other colors like light grey, grey or white? This might sound silly, but I like cream in my coffee, is there any way to adjust that color as well? Thank you for your time and attention.
Carmen
Hi Carmen!,

You mean the wood tone? I hadn’t thought about it, but I’ll definitely look into it. You know, Jeff in Italy is the original desk design, even though its look is very different, and I just love that coffee cup! :coffee: but I couldn’t use it in the OpenSource version since I only had the rights for one blog only, so I took a picture of my very own coffee mug *sigh* Though there are more options overat iStock, but I’ll see what I can do with my camera, too…

Hi Martha,
I’ve sent you a couple of emails and haven’t gotten any answer. I don’t know if you are getting them.
Hope everything is well.
Hi Bob!!

Gracias! Yup. They did arrive, but I was removing bugs :untechy: from the new theme that’s about to be released for WordPress fans, and I just saw them. Last night I sent you a long reply. Sorry for the delay. I’ll keep in touch :)

Hello! Before I ask you my question…I’d like to thank you so much for making this. The theme fits my title so much and every time I see it, it relaxes me. I want to know how can I add the blogroll and twitter since this is my first time to use wordpress. I’m a blogspot user so this is totally new for me.

Yay! Congrats for moving to WordPress from Blogspot.

Let’s see…
On WordPress 2.3 you go into your wp-admin login page => presentation => widgets and add a widget.
On WordPress 2.5 you go into your wp-admin login page => design => widgets and add a widget.

You can manage your blogroll by going to => Links to customize your links, and they’ll automatically show up on your sidebar blogroll widget.

There are many, many twitter widgets available out there, and I actually use a Friend Feed widget to incorporate my life stream feed like blog feed, Digg, YouTube, etc. I’ll Email you with a few tips…

Hi Martha, how are you doing this evening?
I’m thinking of upgrading my WordPress theme to your “desk theme,” which I found in the “theme directory.” I clicked through to your main blog (here) in search of alternate headers. I read your post about the header you have, with expanding/collapsing photographs and wondered … how could I aquire that? I love it! Thanks for doing such great work. ciao bella ~Nick

Ciao Nick!

How are you? Isn’t the header fun? Readers go click-happy with it, which is very, very cool, and very much the point. :artist: I’m actually still working on the code for the new theme, which is proving to be much more complicated than the desk theme, but it will be finished sometime today.

Since it usually takes a few days to go live at the WordPress site, I’ll also upload it here tonight into a blog post in order to activate comments.

So Nick, you can already start choosing your pictures. The theme’s default settings are for 6 images, sized 500px by 333px. But you do have the option of placing as many image-links as you’d like, and they can be as high as you’d like. They just have to be the same size.

<Ciao e a presto,
:chaplin:

Hey! I just have a quick question for you here from bologna. When you studied abroad here in italy before didn’t you change programs? I’m considering changing programs and I need to know legally if that is possible with the permesso di sorrgiorno. I thought you’d be the right person to ask. Ciao ciao!

Actually I did change programs while in Italy! My goodness, but that was 5 or 6 years ago.

Though the University study center in Italy made me go back to California and start the Visa process all over again. Once I was at the Italian consulate in San Francisco, they told me that I could have extended my stay to the second Italian University while in Italy. So, one place said one thing, the other said another. I hope you were able to change programs without too much trouble.

What ignited your passion for languages?

Ciao Sonya!

Wow, I hadn’t thought about this in a while. Well, I’ve always been surrounded by different languages, and I grew up bilingual, but I remember one day mom mentioned to me that all her life she dreamed of studying languages and seeing other countries, and that stood with me. Fortunately, after studying college in Europe, I was able to continue living abroad and improve my other languages.

How’s the weather?

Very foggy San Francisco day, you walk through the garden and a light mist falls all around you. You can’t see it but you can feel it. The ground below you seems shiny, as if it had rained, but it’s just a funny, funny day…

Feeling Nosy?
